Permanent Hair Removal and Reduction

Never shave again

withthe ultra-fast and effective permanent hair reduction technology

Hair removal for both men and women is a great time saver. Unwanted hair on the face, arms, underarms, back and hands can be the cause of embarrassment and social concern.

Constant and tedious daily shaving wastes time and energy.

Waxing and plucking can only go so far before they’re needed again - which is why you need a more permanent solution. Compared to these, laser hair removal can save time, energy, and costs associated with shaving and waxing.

 FAQs

  • There is minimum discomfort.

Numbing cream will be applied, and cold therapy will be used during procedure to decease the pain.

  • The length of the treatment varies by the size of the area being treated.

For example, a treatment of the chin takes typically 10 minutes. This is something that can be done on your lunch hour.

  • The result is long-lasting with proper care.

    1. Shave with an electric razor the night before your appointment.

    2. Do NOT pluck or pull any hairs

    3. Do NOT use and “epillator” (device that pulls out hairs) or depilatory chemical cream (Nair).

Plucking or pulling a hair breaks the hair off below the skin’s surface and will significantly decrease the treatment’s effectiveness.

The hair must be at the level of the skin so the laser can travel down the shaft of the hair and heat the root to stop hair growth.

  • hair reduction and removal is not a “one and done” procedure. Multiple treatments are needed.

The greatest amount of hair removal will occur with the first few treatments. Subsequent treatments are performed as a new “crop” of hair emerges in the area of treatment.

There will be a few hairs that appear after the completion of all treatments. Those “stragglers” can be removed all at once at a reduced cost.

  • Hair removal starts as little as $60.00 per treatment for the chin.

The cost is even less if a “package” of hair removal is requested.

  • Immediately after the treatment:

there is usually some redness in the area from the heat of the laser.

Small, pink bumps will be seen on the surface of the skin at each pore that had a hair. The redness and the small pink bumps resolve in less than two hours.

Aquaphor is applied to the treated area to calm the skin.

    For the next two days:

The treated hairs will be ejected from the follicle and the pore of the skin. These small hairs (1mm or less) will be seen as the area is washed. This is NOT new hair growth. These are the hairs that have been treated and will never return.

  • Typically, Hair Removal and Reduction appointments are spaced one month apart for the first several treatments.

After multiple treatments, patients are told to return when there is significant hair growth.

Hair follicles can remain “dormant” for up to two years and then suddenly produce a hair.

  • The most common side effect is some redness.

Additionally each hair follicle will have a small, raised pink dot from the hair being heated by the laser.

This is a sign of successful hair-removal and not a complication.

The redness and pink dots resolve one-two hours after treatment.

The Science

Permanent hair reduction tailored to your needs

  • Underarm hairs can get infected, often abscess and may even require surgery. Facial hair on the chin and cheeks is a frequent cause of adult acne in women.

It is impossible to achieve a “hair-free” condition with only one treatment. Dormant hairs in the follicles can surface after the laser treatment, sometimes up to two years later. We offer treatment for all skin types, colors and ages.

We offers two different kinds of laser hair removal with the advanced Sciton® Joule Laser System: Yag Laser and Broad Band Light (BBL). The Yag laser can be used on all skin types and colors. The BBL is more suited to those with light skin and dark hair.

The end result of both therapies is the permanent elimination of unwanted body and facial hair.

Hair removal is one of the simplest and most gratifying treatments for many patients. The hair must be dark in color and shaved with an electric razor the night before the treatment.

The laser or BBL (Broad-Band Light) hand piece is chilled to 46 degrees F. It is is applied to the skin with a thin coat of ultrasound gel to help dissipate the heat caused by the laser “singeing” the hair. The laser energy is transmitted down the hair shaft to the follicle.

The bulb in the follicle is heated and no further hair will be produced. The hair that was singed is ejected by the hair follicle and will appear on the surface of the skin or in wash water. As the hair follicle is ejected, it looks as if more hair is growing. It is not. This is hair that is being eliminated by the skin.

    How Hair Grows:

There are three phases of hair growth:

    • Anagen Phase:

The anagen phase of hair growth lasts from 2 to 8 years. This is the “visible” phase of hair growth. Those with a long anagen phase can grow long hair. At any time, 85% of hair is in the anagen phase.

    • Catagen Phase:

This phase lasts 2- 4 weeks. This is the transition phase where the hair follicle shrinks in size and there is no hair growth.

    • Telogen Phase:

The telogen phase is the dormant or resting phase. At any one time, about 15% of the hair is in the resting phase. Hair shedding is common during this phase. If hair grew in “crops” like corn or wheat, we would go bald until a new “crop” of hair regrows.

Since various hairs are in one of three phases, the anagen phase being the longest, six to eight treatments of hair removal are required to eliminate all the “crops” of hair.

Hair in the telogen phase cannot be removed since there is no hair shaft to transmit the laser-light energy to the bulb or root of the hair. Hair recently “waxed” will not be close enough to the surface to receive the laser-light energy.
