The Science

Skin Tightening targets skin laxity, one of the most prominent and visible signs of aging.

  • The History of Microneedling

    Asia:

It began in ancient China. It was documented in a book called The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, about 100 BC.

Acupuncture was thought to release “blockages” and open conduits or channels to help the Qi (life force or vital energy) flow.

Today, acupuncture is still used to aid the body’s self-healing process and functions. Thus, micro needling is a modern “take” on a time-honored ancient Chinese practice.

    Europe:

In western literature, the first use of micro needling was by German dermatologist, Dr. Ernst Kromayer, in 1905.

In his writings, he illustrated the use of minute, motor-driven dental burs which he used to treat hyper-pigmentation, scars and birthmarks.

    United States:

Microneedling was “rediscovered” in 1995 by a Philadelphia dermatologist, by Dr. Desmond Fernandes.

He used hypodermic needles that he made into a “stamp” and treated scars and wrinkles with this device. He found repeated application of the stamp induced elastin and collagen production resulting in remodeling of the skin.

Others found microneedling could be used to soften wrinkles, remodel acne scars, treat brown spots and pigment issues utilizing the body’s own healing processes.
