 FAQs

  • Tattoo removal is as painful as getting a tattoo. Numbing cream is not effective, because the nerves are too deep to reach.

A Zimmer® Chiller is used to cool the skin almost to the point of freezing. This works more quickly and effectively than slow numbing creams.

Some clinics inject novacaine or lidocaine into the tattoo with a needle. Both of these anesthetics cause severe pain and disperse the ink necessitating more treatments.

  • The laser does not remove any ink. The ink is fractured with a very powerful and short laser pulse.

The laser breaks up the ink without heating and scarring the skin. A white frost appears on top of the skin when the ink is fractured and a snapping sound is made by the ink as it is fractured.

The frost is not cold, it is just skin with microscopic water bubbles of steam in it.

  • For best results, the tattoo should be at least 3 months old. The skin must be allowed to heal after being "assaulted" with a needle and ink.

If possible, wait 6 months after getting a tattoo.

  • It depends on several factors:

    1. The age of the tattoo

    2. The depth of the tattoo

    3. The amount of ink

    4. The resistance of the ink to the laser.

No tattoo can be removed in one treatment. Three to ten treatments are required to remove the pigment since there are layers at various depths.

Pigment closer to the surface of the skin will fracture first. Deeper pigment is then treated in a subsequent treatment.

We do offer FREE exam and consultation, feel free to call or email us to set up an appointment.

  • Typically, treatments are performed every 4 - 6 weeks because that is when the peak amount of ink is removed after being fractured and broken into smaller pieces.

  • Various colors of tattoos require different lasers for each color. The Fountain Clinic™ has the full range of equipment needed to remove multicolored tattoos. Our clinic is uniquely qualified to remove multicolored tattoos with various laser machines.

Note: One laser system will NOT remove all colors.

  • Mostly, Laser Tattoo Removal will restore the original color and pigment of the skin.

If the skin was scarred by the procedure, it could be repaired with our Laser Scar Treatment for FREE.

  • Blistering is common.

Especially during the last several treatment, because maximum laser power delivered to the deep tattoo ink.

Most blisters heal in 2 - 3 days and it is important NOT to disturb a blister by rubbing or rupturing with a needle.

If the blister is disturbed and scratched off, a white fluffy cloud of scarring will result in the area of the blister.

The Science

Anatomy of a Tattoo

  • Many newer tattoos are made from metals and their oxides. These provide vibrant colors but are very difficult to remove because they are poorly heated and broken by the laser pulse. A tattoo consists of ink or pigment inserted under the skin at various depths. Many kinds of ink have been used. Black ink is usually made from carbon, the element that makes charcoal black. Prison tattoos are made using black ashes of paper and a sewing needle. These generally come off quicker than professionally applied tattoos because there is less pigment (carbon), and the pigment is not deep. Other black tattoos are made from a mixture of three primary colors of dyes: red, green and blue. This type of ink changes color as it is treated. The red pigment is most sensitive to absorbing the laser pulse, so it disperses first.

Once the ink is broken into small pieces, your white blood cells remove the molecules of ink. The number of white cells in the tattoo makes a difference on how fast it is removed. Thus, fingers and toes are colder than the rest of the body and they will take more treatments since circulation is less than elsewhere. Smoking or vaping with nicotine constricts the blood vessels and reduces the circulation in the tattooed skin.

The Astanza Duality
Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser

  • Versatile for Ink Colors

The Q-switched Duality Laser treatment machine produces energy in the most trusted wavelengths for tattoo removal: 1064 nm and 532 nm. With this combination, this laser can treat a wide range of tattoo ink colors – black, brown, violet, blue, red, orange, green, and yellow. The Q-switched laser for sale provides the essential wavelengths to completely remove ink in nearly all tattoos – and therefore is the perfect choice for virtually every laser tattoo removal practice.

Some other Nd:YAG lasers promise additional wavelengths for treating rare tattoo shades through handpiece dye kits, yet these “add-on” wavelengths are ineffective due to extremely low energy production (often only 1/6 the power). Don’t be fooled by handpiece wavelength gimmicks – they are never powerful enough to completely remove tattoos.

If the treatment of rare, resistant colors (such as bright blue or green) is important to your practice, browse one of our other machines like the Astanza Trinity laser for more information.

The Astanza EternityTSR
Q-Switched Ruby Laser

  • Unique Ruby Wavelength Designed for Targeting Stubborn Inks

Nd:YAG lasers, like the Astanza Duality, are the cornerstone of any professional laser tattoo removal treatment practice. Yet, there are some rare colors – lime-green, sky blue, and teal – that can be difficult to fade with even the most powerful Nd:YAG lasers. For these resistant hues, it is necessary to have a third wavelength to achieve complete removal of the tattoo ink.

The 694 nm wavelength produced by the EternityTSR Q-switched ruby laser is the perfect supplemental wavelength to remove resistant colors. In addition to treating resistant blues and greens, the EternityTSR also provides effective removal for resistant, dark black tattoos. Tribal-type tattoos and others with heavy black ink application can achieve removal quickly when treated with a combination of 1064 nm and 694 nm wavelengths.
